Drugs and stolen property found during Barrie traffic stop

Barrie Police received a driving complaint in regards to a vehicle running red lights in the area of Tiffin Street and Patterson Road which led to locating two parties wanted on warrants from Peel Regional Police.

On Thursday, October 13th, 2016 at 11:00am police attended an address on Brock Street, in the City of Barrie, after receiving a driving complaint.  The vehicle was located with two parties inside, both of which were identified as being wanted on warrants from Peel Regional Police in regards to a previous robbery. The investigation also revealed the vehicle in question was used in commission of the robbery and was therefore seized.  Inside the vehicle police located over 500g of suspected crystalized and cannabis marijuana, multiple cell phones, drug and trafficking paraphernalia, a quantity of cash, ID and credit cards, two safes, and an airsoft gun.

The 17-year-old female of No Fixed Address was arrested on the warrant for two counts of Robbery, Assault Cause Bodily Harm and Fail to Comply with YCJA Probation.  Additionally she was charged with two counts of  Possession of a Scheduled Substance, two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Fail to Comply with Sentence.

The 18-year-old male of No Fixed Address was arrested on the warrant for two counts of Robbery and Assault Cause Bodily Harm.  Additionally he was charged with two counts of  Possession of a Scheduled Substance, two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

Both were transported to Peel Regional Police to answer to the outstanding warrants and will be in Barrie Court at the end of November for the additional charges.

Police need assistance identifying man wanted sexual assault investigation

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance identifying a suspect in a sexual assault investigation.

It is reported that;

on Monday, October 3, 2016, at approximately 9 a.m., a girl, 12, got onto a TTC bus, route 168 (Symington Avenue), leaving from Dundas Street West station

a man sat beside the girl and sexually assaulted her

on Monday, September 26, 2016, the same man was observed deliberately moving to sit beside a teenage girl on the TTC Subway eastbound on Line 2

a concerned passenger was able to discreetly take a photograph of the man and forwarded it to police after seeing the original news release

He is described as having his right arm in a black sling, wearing a distinctive black baseball cap with a “15” emblem in the center front of the hat in red numbers and a white border trim as well as an unknown white emblem at the back of the hat.

Security camera images of this man have been released.

OPP charge man with several historic domestic assaults

(Rideau Lakes, ON) – In April 2016, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Leeds County Crime Unit commenced an investigation after a woman reported being a victim of historical domestic assaults.

As a result of the investigation, on September 8, 2016, the Leeds County OPP Crime Unit arrested and charged a 36-year old South Elmsley Township man with six (6) counts of assault (domestic) that occurred between 2008 and 2013.

The accused was released on a Promise To Appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, Brockville, with a court date for September 30, 2016 but was remanded to October 21, 2016.

The name of the accused will not be released in this case, to protect the identity of the victim.

Four charged with B&E and assault on homeowners

(Township of Drummond North Elmsley, ON) – Officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged four adults during the investigation of a serious assault in the Township of Drummond North Elmsley.

At 06:53 pm on Thursday 6th October 2016, OPP were called to home on Drummond Concession 10 A where a 29 year old man and 32 year old woman were injured. The woman’s injuries were serious.  Both victims were conveyed to Hospital.

The investigation is active and ongoing.

Linda WISEMAN (52 years) of Smiths Falls is charged:

  • One (1) Count. Aggravated Assault.
  • One (1) Count Possession of a Weapon.
  • One (1) Count Break and Enter a Dwelling.
  • One (1) Count Assault Cause Bodily Harm.
  • One (1) Count Forcible Confinement.
  • One (1) Count Mischief Under $5,000.

All offences are contrary to The Criminal Code of Canada.

WISEMAN is in custody pending a Bail Hearing in the Provincial Court in Perth.

Warrants for arrest have been issued for three other adults.

Lance CURRY  (34 years), Stephanie VIGRASS (32 years) and Johnathan YOUNG (34 years) are all charged with the same offences as WISEMAN.

YOUNG is further charged:

  • One(1) Count Assault.

Human remains found in North Bay sent for post mortem

(NORTH BAY, ON) – The North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), under the direction of Detective Inspector Mark Zulinski of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), is investigating found human remains on private property in Bonfield Township following a call received on October 9, 2016.

The search for the remains was completed on the evening of October 13, 2016 after OPP carried out a very methodical search through very dense and rugged terrain.

The remains were transported to the Northeast Region Forensic Pathology Unit in Sudbury where a post mortem exam will be conducted to assist in the positive identification on Monday, October 17, 2016

The investigation is ongoing and information will be released as it becomes available.

Multi Vehicle Fatal Crash On Highway 3 -Update – Driver Charged

(ESSEX, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver involved in a  multi-vehicle crash that occurred April 27, 2016 at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Highway 3, east of Essex County Road 23 in Essex, Ontario.

A GMC pickup truck was hauling a utility trailer travelling westbound on Highway 3 when it struck the rear of another vehicle setting off a chain reaction resulting in 2 vehicles being struck head on which were travelling in the oncoming eastbound lanes.

Diana PEPPER, age 67 of Leamington who was a rear passenger in one of the involved vehicles succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

In addition, 6 people in total were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Decio MARQUES, age 30 of Kingsville, Ontario was the operator of the GMC pickup truck and has been charged with Careless Driving, contrary to Section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

OPP warn of Hydro One scam

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment is warning residents about the Hydro One scam after police investigated an incident at a Concession 5, Woodhouse, Norfolk County address.

On Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at approximately 10:38 a.m., police were contacted by a concerned resident after a call was received from an unknown male claiming to work for Hydro One.

The male indicated that there was an outstanding balance owing on their account and that in order to avoid any interruption in their service they needed to pay the outstanding balance immediately.

Realizing that this was a scam, the resident immediately hung up the phone and contacted police.

Police are urging everyone to hang up the phone if you should receive such a call. It’s a SCAM.

Espanola schools to be closed Monday due to threats

The Espanola Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating a threat against Espanola High School.

Espanola High School, A.B. Ellis Public School, and The One Tot Stop Daycare will all be closed on Monday, October 17, 2016. Transportation for students at Espanola High School and A.B. Ellis Public School has been cancelled for the day.

Students and staff at École secondaire catholique Franco-Ouest will be re-located to École Saint-Joseph for the day.  Regular bus transportation for students who attend Franco-Ouest and Saint-Joseph will be provided.  These schools are part of the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario.

“We take these threats seriously,” said Norm Blaseg, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board.  “As a result, we have implemented precautionary measures.  Parents/guardians are asked to ensure that they do not send their children to Espanola High School and A.B. Ellis Public School on Monday, October 17, 2016.”  Classes are expected to resume on Tuesday, October 18, 2016.

He added: “All parents/guardians can be assured that we will continue to remain vigilant and work with the Espanola Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police as they continue their investigation.  The safety of the students in our care is always first and foremost.”

Chief Steven Edwards would like to assure the community that it is safe. “The Espanola Police Service takes these investigations seriously and is working with the school community to ensure the well-being of students and staff.”

He added: “Communications have flowed very well between the schools and the police. All precautions are being taken before day-to-day business resumes. We are all erring on the side of caution.”

Ottawa man charged with Child Pornography Offences

(Ottawa) – In late May of 2016 and early June of 2016, the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre (NCECC) forwarded the Ottawa Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) 2 reports they had received from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipLine.

These reports indicated that IP addresses in the Ottawa area were uploading images and video of child sexual abuse via the Internet using a private web based chat room known as “ChatStep”.  An additional report was received in early October 2016 from Interpol Manchester advising of another IP address based in the Ottawa area engaging in chats about abusing children using “Skype”, an Internet based communication service.

Subsequent production orders (warrants) were obtained by the ICE Unit and served on the Internet Service Provider; all revealing the same location.

A search warrant was executed today in the Stittsville area of the City of Ottawa. Computers, a cellular device and external digital media were seized and are being forensically analysed.

Robert “Neill” RITCHIE, 63, of Ottawa, has been charged with three (3) counts of Possession of Child Pornography, two (2) counts of Distribution of Child Pornography, and two (2) counts of Make Available Child Pornography.

He is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Saturday, October 15th 2016.

The Ottawa Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to protect children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet.  This Project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

Timmins man charged with B&E at local business

The Timmins Police Service has completed its investigation into a break-in to a local Wilson Street business which occurred in February of this year.

The suspect is alleged to have gained entry into the business and made off with more than $5000 in stolen property.

The suspect was apprehended by officers with the Matheson OPP and turned him over to the Timmins Police Service yesterday evening.

Cody VANALSTYNE, 22, of Timmins, has been arrested and charged with:

  • One count of Break and Enter contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • One count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Possession of Break-in Instruments contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count of Use Disguise With Intent to Commit Indictable Offence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The suspect remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.

Federal imate wanted – Have you seen Ryan O’Grady?

(TORONTO, ON) The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a Federal Offender wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant as a result of his breach of parole.

This offender is serving a 7 year, 10 month sentence for Armed Robbery and Arson which occurred in Winnipeg, MB and Montreal, QC.

Ryan O’GRADY is described as a 37 year old male, 5’ 11” (180 cm), 161 lbs  (77 kg),  medium build, blue eyes, and has short brown hair.

The offender is known to frequent the Sudbury area however he has contacts in Ottawa,  Winnipeg, MB, and Aylmer and Gatineau, QC.

Lambton – Traffic stop leads to arrest of all five occupants – Over 50 charges

(LAMBTON, ON) – On Monday October 10th, 2016, at just before 9:00 p.m., a uniform member of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle that was traveling northbound on 40 Highway, St. Clair Township for a Highway Traffic Act violation.   

During the traffic stop, two people were initially arrested on outstanding warrants held by the Lambton OPP and the St. Thomas Police Service. A subsequent search of the persons and motor vehicle discovered;

  • 1.63 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine,
  • 108, 8mg hydromorphone pills,
  • 86, 4mg hydromorphone pills.
  • 36, 12mg hydromorphone capsules
  • 37, 24mg hydromorphone capsules.
  • 5 tramacet
  • Several fraudulent prescriptions
  • Approximately 40 various pieces of identification
  •  2 laptops with several USB sticks

All five occupants in the vehicle were consequently arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP. As a result,

25 year old Bradley Valer DEMAITER of Lucan Biddulph Township has been charged with,

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance
  • Possession of Forged Document with Intent, 4 counts
  • Identity Theft, 3 counts
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, 7 counts
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance, 2 counts
  • Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice

21 year old Shae-Lyn ARSENAULT of Sarnia has been charged with,

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance
  • Possession of Forged Document with Intent, 4 counts
  • Identity Theft, 3 counts
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, 7 counts

21 year old Emma Ley BLOIS of St. Clair Township has been charged with,

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance
  • Possession of Forged Document with Intent, 4 counts
  • Identity Theft, 3 counts
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, 7 counts
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking

36 year old Paige Ashley Zakariah Keith BUTTERWICK of St. Thomas has been charged with,

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance
  • Possession of Forged Document with Intent, 4 counts
  • Identity Theft, 5 counts
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, 7 counts
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance, 2 counts

27 year old John Edward Thomas LOCKE of Sarnia has been charged with,

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance
  • Possession of Forged Document with Intent, 4 counts
  • Identity Theft, 3 counts
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, 7 counts

All accused were held for bail on Tuesday October 11, 2016 at the Sarnia Ontario Court of Justice.

Investigation is presently on-going. The Lambton County OPP is asking that if anyone with information regarding these offences to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 882-1011, or their nearest police authority.

Police looking for man in regards to a theft from a retirement home

The Niagara Regional Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest in a theft at a Pelham retirement home on October 8th.
Police are trying to identify a white male who appears to be in his late 40’s to 50’s, with greying hair and dressed all in black. The male appears to be bow legged when he walks.

Peel police look for man wanted in assault case

Mississauga – Investigators from 11 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a male suspect in relation to an assault.

On Sunday September 18, 2016, at approximately 2:00 a.m., the victim was exiting a drinking establishment in the area of Royal Windsor Drive and Winston Churchill Blvd. in the City of Mississauga when he was approached from behind by an unknown male. The male suspect struck the victim in the face multiple times and fled in a white coloured motor vehicle. The male victim suffered injuries which required medical attention.

The suspect is described as: male, white, medium build, brown hair parted on left side, facial hair, wearing a grey sweater, and black pants.

Waterloo police looking for man who committed indecent act on bus

Waterloo Regional Police are asking for the publics assistance in identifying an individual in connection with an indecent act that occurred on a Grand River Transit bus on August 5, 2016 at 5 p.m.

The bus was travelling on Munch Avenue in Cambridge at the time. He is described as brown skinned, late teens to mid-twenties, between 5’3” and 5’7” with short dark hair.

Investigators are releasing images and are requesting anyone with information that can assist in identifying the individual to call Waterloo Regional Police Service at 519-653-7700 ext. 2235 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

19 year old charged after assaulting woman – nine charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in an Assault investigation.

On Friday, October 14, 2016, at 3:15 p.m., officers responded to a call for an assault in the Parkcrest Drive and Kingston Road area.

It is alleged that:

– a man was assaulting a 20-year-old woman by the roadside

– he fled as officers arrived

– he was arrested a short distance away

– a search uncovered a hidden loaded firearm

Jahvon Nurse, 19, of Toronto, is charged with:

1) Assault
2) Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
3) Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
4) Possess Loaded Firearm
5) Carry Concealed Weapon
6) Careless Storage of Firearm
7) Weapons Dangerous
8) Careless Storage of Ammunition
9) Possession of Prohibited Device

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Saturday, October 15, 2016, 9 a.m., room 101.

Man sought after assault on TTC bus – Do you know this man?

The Toronto Police Service requires assistance identifying and locating a man wanted in an Assault investigation.

On Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at 12:29 p.m., officers responded to a call for an Assault on a TTC bus in the Eglinton Avenue East and Markham Road area.

It is reported that:

– a 36-year-old woman was sitting towards the back of the bus

– she closed the window in front of her

– a man became angry that she had shut the window and began yelling at her

– he approached her twice and spat in her face

– he then returned to her a third time and assaulted her

He is described as having a tanned complexion, 23–38, 5’7”, approximately 140 lbs., with short brown hair. He was wearing a purple-and-green sweater and blue jeans.

Police Seeking Identity of Fraud Suspect

The Barrie Police has recently received video surveillance and are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect responsible for creating two fraudulent bank accounts and attempting to cash a fraudulent cheque.

The suspect created two fraudulent accounts at two separate financial institutions in Barrie on Wednesday, August 31 and Friday, September 2, 2016. The suspect then made two transactions utilizing one of the accounts at an ATM in the GTA on Tuesday, September 20, just before 11:00 a.m.

The following week, on Friday, September 30, the suspect attempted to cash a cheque for over $7,000 in Barrie. The authenticity of the cheque was queried; which led the bank to believe the cheque was suspicious and police were called.

The suspect is described as;

  • Male, black
  • Approx. 40 yrs.
  • Heavy set, 5’11” -6’0
  • Unshaven
  • Wears glasses

Suspect was seen wearing;

  • Neon construction vest
  • White t-shirt and dark pants
  • Baseball hat, dark shirt and dark pants

Body found on Lake Huron shoreline

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a beach located just north of Port Albert, Ontario following the discovery of a deceased male that was found on the Lake Huron shoreline.  The adult male was found wearing a life jacket.

The identity of the male is not known, however investigative efforts are currently taking place to identify the male.

Members from the Huron County OPP Crime Unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) attended the scene to assist with the death investigation.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled to take place on Monday, October 17, 2016.

Foul play is not suspected.

OPP investigating Ilderton pharmacy robbery

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – The Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit is currently investigating a robbery at an Ilderton pharmacy at 36 Heritage Drive, Middlesex Centre.

On October 15, 2016, at approximately 9:18 a.m. a lone male suspect entered the pharmacy and made demands to a pharmacy employee. The suspect fled the pharmacy with an undisclosed amount of narcotics.

The suspect was last seen leaving the area on foot.

The suspect is described as male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, average build, wearing a black hoodie and a plaid jacket.  The suspect was carrying a black bag at the time of the robbery.
