Peterborough woman charged with aggravated assault

A 28-year-old Peterborough woman has been charged with aggravated assault in an ongoing investigation.

On August 13, 2016 at approximately 4:30 a.m. police were alerted to a shooting incident ‎that was alleged to have occurred in Victoria Park on Water Street. Investigation determined it had actually occurred inside an apartment at 212 Brock Street. The male victim, a visitor at the apartment, was treated and released from a local hospital for a non- life threatening injury. This was believed to be a targeted incident and not a random act.

Through the investigation one of the suspects was identified. On October 4, 2016 officers located the female suspect walking in the area of George and Simcoe Streets. As a result of the investigation Terina Ann Tugwell, 28, of George Street North, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. She was additionally charged with theft under $5,000 for an incident that had occurred just prior to this incident where an amount of alcohol was stolen from a local store.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing as we believe there are multiple suspects involved.

Ottawa – Suspect sought in commercial Break & Enters

(Ottawa)—The Ottawa Police Break & Enter Unit is investigating two linked commercial break & enters and is seeking the public’s assistance to identify the suspect responsible.

On August 31, 2016, at approximately 3:20 am, a suspect forcibly entered a commercial premises situated along the 200 block of Montreal Road.  On September 12, 2016, at approximately 4:10 am, the same suspect attended the same location, and again gained access.  On both dates the suspect fled with items from the premises.

The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male, short with a heavy build, mid 30’s to 40’s with darker hair and a beard. (images attached)

Sudbury – Personal Support Worker Charged with 23 Fraud Related Offences

In August and September of 2016, the Greater Sudbury Police Service received two complaints from an elderly male, reporting that on two separate occasions, his credit cards were stolen and used to conduct a number of fraudulent transactions totalling over $1,600.00.

Police determined that a Personal Support Worker (PSW) hired to care for the complainant’s wife in their home, had stolen the credit cards and used them to make the transactions.

Police further learned that the PSW had provided her employer with a forged Police Vulnerable Sector Check, for the purpose of gaining employment.

Following an investigation by the Greater Sudbury Police Service, the female suspect was charged with 23 fraud related offences, including:

– Theft of a Credit Card (X2);

– Possess/Use Stolen Credit Card (x10);

– Fraud Under $5,000.00 (x10); and

– Uttering a Forged Document.

Employers are reminded to ensure they are in receipt of a hard-copy, original Police Record Check. If the validity of the Record Check is in question, employers are urged to contact Police.

OPP charge man for historical sexual offences

(GRENVILLE COUNTY, ON) – In early 2016, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Grenville County Crime Unit commenced an investigation after a man reported being a victim of a sexual assault.

As a result of the investigation, on October 5, 2016, the Grenville County OPP Crime Unit arrested and charged a 49-year old man for sexual offences that occurred between 1986 and 1987.

Police have charged Robert FARNSWORTH of Wolford Township with one count of Sexual Assault contrary to Section 246.1 of the 1986/1987 Criminal Code and one count of Gross Indecency contrary to Section 157of the 1986/1987 Criminal Code.

The accused was held in custody and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on October 6, 2016.

OPP shutdown alleged cocaine traffickers

(Marmora, ON) – On October 5, 2016 at approximately 5:00 p.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit, Belleville Police Service, Tyendinaga Police Service and members of Central Hastings Detachment executed two Controlled Drug and Substances Act search warrants at two separate residences on Madoc Street in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake and a residence on Springbrook Road in Stirling-Rawdon Township.

Investigators seized a restricted firearm (handgun), cocaine, marihuana and other Schedule I substances as well as other drug related paraphernalia.  The street value of the controlled substances is estimated at approximately $17 000.

As a result the following people have been charged:

Konstantine MERIANOS (23yrs) of Marmora, ON

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/ammunition
  • Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 – in Canada
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance – 3 counts

MERIANOS has been held in custody pending a bail hearing at Ontario Court of Justice- Belleville on October 6, 2016.

Spiros MERIANOS (76yrs) of Marmora, ON, Amanda TAYLOR (26yrs) of Stirling, ON and Quinn BOLTON (19yrs) of Stirling, ON

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine

Motor vehicle collision claims life of 19 year old Sudbury man

(MARKSTAY WARREN, ON) – On October 5, 2015, at approximately 6:25 p.m., Warren and Noelville Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a collision on Highway 17, about 1 kilometre west of Pioneer Road in Markstay Warren.

It was learned that an eastbound car crossed the centre line striking a westbound transport.

The driver of the car sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by Sudbury Emergency Medical Services (EMS), where he succumbed to his injuries.  He has been identified as Jon Usitalo, 19 years of age of Sudbury.

Highway 17 was closed from 6:25 pm until 3:25 am and traffic was rerouted.  OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) will be investigating the collision.

Tecumseh Officials Warn of Potential Scam Artists Praying on Victims Of Flooding

(TECUMSEH, ON) – Town of Tecumseh officials want to remind recent flood victims of potential scam artists who may attempt to capitalize on their recent misfortune.

Although no confirmed reports have been received, it is prudent to ensure that any company offering to assist with cleanup and/or renovations be reputable.

In most cases, legitimate companies will not ask for monies up front, especially cash and should always provide estimates in writing.

The Ontario Provincial Police add that the elderly are usually those most frequently affected by this type of scam and should be particularly cautious.

OPP warn residents of grandparent scam after elderly resident loses $1,000

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment investigated an incident after receiving a complaint from a resident at a Norfolk County, Ontario address.

On Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at approximately 9:29 p.m., the Norfolk County OPP was contacted by a concerned elderly resident regarding a phone call that was received at their residence. The homeowner indicated that they received a call from a male claiming to be their grandson.

The male informed the resident that they had been in a collision and were currently in custody at the police station and needed $1,000 dollars in bail money before he was allowed to leave. Approximately $1,000 dollars was forwarded through the use of a money transfer service.

Police were immediately contacted after it was determined that their grandson did not call and was not involved in a motor vehicle collision.

The OPP are reminding all Norfolk County residents to be extremely vigilant and to be alert for unsolicited calls, emails, faxes or visitors that arrive at your residence.

If anyone should receive a call in this manner, please contact your immediate family and inquire if anyone is in need of assistance. Please do not forward any funds without speaking to family members first.

Modern, tech savvy, scammers have personal information about before they ever try to contact you. It is imperative to verify any unsolicited contact before you respond and provide information. Keep your guard up when you receive a surprise call from anyone soliciting funds and indicating that a loved one is in jail or have been involved in a serious incident.

You work hard for your money, so work hard to protect it. Do not hand it over to a smooth talking con artist. Fraud is a multi-billion dollar per year business that will only stop when the con artists stop making money.

Police looking for Bothwell bank robber

Yesterday afternoon at 2:55 p.m. police responded to a robbery at the Bank of Montreal on Main Street in Bothwell.

A man entered the bank, concealing what appeared to be a firearm in his sleeve, and demanded money from the employees. The man was given an undisclosed amount of money and fled the bank on foot westbound.

The man is described as white, approximately 6’2” tall, slim build, scruffy, wearing a navy blue Hollister hoodie, gray sweatpants, sunglasses, white running shoes and black and yellow motorcycle gloves.

Ottawa man charged with Human Trafficking and Child Luring

(Ottawa)—On Monday, October 10, 2106 the Ottawa Police Human Trafficking Unit arrested and charged Cameron LYONS, 37 years old of Ottawa.

He is accused of initiating conversations over Facebook with three female youths – two 14 year olds and one 16 year old – and using false identities on Facebook, posing as a talent agent for a false company to lure the females. The conversation would turn from modeling to the request to provide sexual services for money at parties and events.

The first victim came forward in 2015 and an investigation began.

Investigators believe that other females may have been contacted over the last several years.  Anyone that had contact with Cameron LYONS or social media accounts using the names Joe Howorth, Steve DeBone or VIP Entertainment is urged to contact the Ottawa Police Human Trafficking Unit.

Cameron LYONS was charged with the following offences:

  • 3 counts of Trafficking in persons, under 18
  • 3 counts of Child luring
  • 2 counts of Procuring person to provide sexual services, under 18

He was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody.

Five males arrested for sexually assaulting an 18 year old female

In August of 2016, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Sexual Assault Unit commenced an investigation into a sexual assault allegation by an 18 year old female.
The investigation determined that the Victim had gone to a party in St. Catharines in August of 2016.  The Victim and a group males, then attended a location in Thorold where she was sexually assaulted.  All of the males were known to the Victim.
On October 12, 2016, members of the NRPS Sexual Assault Unit were assisted by School Resource Officers and uniform officers from 2 District Niagara Falls as five males were arrested.
At the time of the offence all the males involved were less than 18 years of age.  Their identities cannot be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act of Canada.
The NRPS has charged the following:
– A 17 year old male from Niagara Falls is charged with Sexual Assault and Party to the Offence of Sexual Assault.
– A 17 year old male from Niagara Falls is charged with Sexual Assault and Party to the Offence of Sexual Assault.
– A 17 year old male from Niagara Falls is charged with Sexual Assault and Party to the Offence of Sexual Assault.
– A 17 year old male from Niagara Falls is charged with Sexual Assault and Party to the Offence of Sexual Assault.
– A 16 year old male from Niagara Falls is charged with Sexual Assault and Party to the Offence of Sexual Assault.
All the arrested males were transported to the NRPS Central Holding in St. Catharines to be held pending a bail hearing on October 13, 2016 at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse.

Witnesses sought to accident that took the lives of four people

Brampton – Investigators from the Major Collision Bureau are seeking the public’s assistance in their investigation into a serious collision involving two vehicles.

On Monday October 10, 2016 at approximately 8:42 pm, a Trans Am and Kia were involved in a violent collision that took the lives of 4 people. The collision took place on Bovaird Drive West between Gillingham Drive and Van Kirk Drive in Brampton.

Investigators are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision, have video footage of the incident, or who may have information about the actions of the drivers prior to the collision.

The following victims have been identified,

Lauren Marie BOUCHARD, 22 year old female from Brampton,

Michelle BOUCHARD, 16 year old female from Brampton,

Brian McGINNIS, 24 year old male from Georgetown,

Calisto MENDONCA, 49 year old male from Brampton

UPDATE – Engagement Ring Stolen at Oshawa Restaurant

A 46-year-old female has been charged after taking an engagement ring that had been accidentally left behind at an Oshawa restaurant.

On Tuesday, October 11, 2016, the suspect attended Central West Division where she was arrested in connection to the investigation.

Heather HUBERT-SMITH, age 46, of Ipswich Place in Whitby is charged with Theft Under $5,000 andPossession of Stolen Property Under $5,000. She was later released on an Undertaking with conditions.

The ring has not been recovered.

Police seize $8.98 million in historic drug bust

On October 12, 2016, after a month-long investigation, members of the Toronto Drug Squad conducted a search warrant in the McCowan Road and Ellesmere Road area.

It is alleged that:

– a criminal organization was importing and distributing cocaine in Toronto and the GTA

Nicholas Shouldice, 32, of Toronto, has been arrested and charged with:

1) two counts of Possession for the Purpose Cocaine
2) Possession for the Purpose MDMA
3) Possession for the Purpose Crystal Meth

It is further alleged that:

– police executed search warrants of the man’s home and car and seized:

1) 73 kilogrammes of Cocaine
2) 12 kilogrammes of Crystal Meth
3) Eight kilogrammes of MDMA

This is believed to be the largest-value drug seizure in the history of the Toronto Police Service, with a street value of $8.98 million.

Joy ride in Huntsville leads to charges

(HUNTSVILLE, ON)  At approximately 10:30PM on October 5, 2016 while patrolling Main Street in Huntsville ON. Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed what appeared to be a homemade dune buggy travelling westbound on Main Street Huntsville. The vehicle had three occupants one sitting on the hood holding the vehicles frame.

Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle when the driver ignored and sped by police leading them through the town. The driver lost control and come to a stop on Centre Street.

The vehicle operator identified as Malcolm MALLOY 24yrs was arrested and charged with the following offences

– Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

– Flight while pursued by police

– Operating an unsafe motor vehicle

– Operating a motor vehicle with no insurance

– Driving while under suspension

The accused is to appear in the Ontario court of Justice in Huntsville on Wednesday November 2, 2016 to answer to the charges

Human bones found in Wasaga Beach

(WASAGA BEACH, ON.) – On Tuesday, October 11th, 2016 at approximately 4:45 p.m., members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report that human bones were located at a construction site on 32nd Street South.

An intensive investigation with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police Forensic Unit and an anthropologist from the Ontario Centre of Forensic Science under the direction of the Huronia West OPP Crime Unit was conducted.

As a result of this investigation it is believed that the bones discovered belong to an ancient burial and as such they are being treated as non suspicious in nature at this time.

OPP charge Quinte West man with 2nd degree murder

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – On October 11, 2016 at 6:30 p.m., officers from Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Quinte West detachment and OPP Forensics Identification Unit (FIS) responded to a report of a physical altercation that occurred at a location on Hwy #2 in the City of Quinte West.

Upon arriving on scene, officers located a 62-year old male with serious life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to hospital, but was pronounced deceased a short time later.

A post mortem is scheduled for October 12, 2016.  The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

Joshua HICKEY, 30-years of age, from Quinte West was arrested at the scene and is charged with one count of Second Degree Murder.  He is being held in custody for a Bail Hearing on October 12, 2016 at Ontario Court of Justice, Belleville, ON

The Quinte West OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Peter Donnelly of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) will be continuing with the investigation. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.

Police requesting public assistance in locating a missing female

(SERPENT RIVER, ON) – The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of OPP K9 and OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) are conducting an extensive search for a missing female from South Bruce, Ontario.

Investigation reveals Gail TUPLIN (51) of South Bruce was last seen on October 1, 2016 at Chippewa Falls north of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.  Her vehicle was later located on October 10, 2016 at a picnic area off of Highway 17 in Serpent River, Ontario.  Her vehicle had been parked there for the past four days.

She is described at 5’6”, weighing approximately 110-115 lbs, black shoulder length hair, brown eyes, and is travelling with a small dog.

Police are concerned for her wellbeing and are asking anyone that may have seen her or know her whereabouts to contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.

Seven people charged in Durham drug sting

Seven people have been arrested and more than $11,000 in narcotics and a handgun were seized in connection to drug trafficking in Durham Region.

In early October 2016, members of the DRPS Drug Enforcement Unit began a street-level crack cocaine investigation and conducted numerous undercover buys from a primary suspect and one other male he was associated with. Last night, officers arrested three males as they left a bar on Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.

Search warrants were executed at two residences in Ajax. On Kidd Court, officers seized 75 grams of cocaine and more than $4,000 cash. On Woolf Crescent, they seized a loaded .32 calibre revolver.

Kurtis MCLETCHIE, age 29, of Kidd Court in Ajax is charged with: Trafficking; Possession for the Purpose Trafficking x2; Possession of Proceeds of Crime x2; Possession of Ecstasy; and Breach of Recognizance x4.

Eric FRANCIS, age 29, of Woolf Crescent in Ajax, is charged with: Trafficking x3; Possession of Proceeds of Crime; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Possession of a Loaded Firearm andPossession of Firearm Obtained by Crime.

Daniel KEBEDE, age 29, of Avondale Avenue in Toronto, is charged with: Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Proceeds of Crime.

Saeed SAVALANPOUR, age 28, of Jarvis Street in Toronto, is charged with: Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Proceeds of Crime.

Paulina CAMPBELL, age 61, Natasha CAMPBELL, age 27, Charlene CRAWFORD, age 25, all of Kidd Court in Ajax, are charged with: Possession for the Purpose Trafficking.

Hamilton Police lay charges against doctor in sexual assault

In November of 2015 the Hamilton Police Service Sexual Assault Unit received a report of an historical sexual assault involving a female victim.

During the course of this investigation further information was received that identified a second female victim who was also sexually assaulted by the same individual in February and March 2009.

On September 28th, 2016, the accused was arrested, charged and later released on a recognizance.

Charged:              Dr. Parag VORA, a 49 year old man from Burlington, Ontario

Charges:               Sexual Assault (x3)

The Hamilton Police Service Victim of Crime Unit continues to investigate and believe that there may be more victims that had contact with Dr. Parag VORA.
