On Sunday May 22, 2016, at approximately 9:45 am, a 12 year old girl was standing on a sidewalk on Bridge Street in the town of New Dundee. She observed a male described as white, approximately 60 years old, grey hair, wearing a ball hat, shorts and a short sleeved shirt walking along the sidewalk. The girl greeted the male and the male placed his hand on her elbow and asked if she wanted to walk with him. The girl refused, walked away from the male and told an adult nearby. It is believed the male was driving a small black car. Police are investigating the incident and are looking to speak with the male. On May 12, 2016, Waterloo Regional Police Break and Enter Unit arrested a 60 year old male for five counts of Break, Enter and Theft at an apartment building on Caroline Street in the City of Waterloo. Through investigation it was determined that the superintendent, Phillip Warrington had allegedly entered numerous units in the apartment building over a four year period removing various items including cash. The investigation continues and police are requesting anyone who has been a victim of similar circumstances in the building to please contact Waterloo Regional Police Break and Enter Team at 519-653-7700 extension 6363. The male was held for a bail hearing.

On Monday May 23rd, 2016 at approximately 2:00 a.m., at the intersection of Vanier Drive and Siebert Avenue, in the City of Kitchener, a 17 year old male was accosted by 2 unknown males who exited a black SUV. One of the males brandished a machete and they demanded all personal property. No injuries occurred to the male at the time of the robbery and personal property was taken. Police are looking to identify 2 males described as: 1 – Black, skinny wearing a sleeveless red basketball jersey 2 – Brown, medium build, dread locks Police are requesting anyone with information regarding this crime call Central Division at 519-653-7700 ext. 4499 or Crime Stoppers.

On Saturday, May 21st, 2016 at approximately 3:10 p.m., a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles occurred near 1541 Highland Road West in the City of Kitchener. A Honda CVR being driven by a 69 year old Kitchener woman was travelling east on Highland Road West towards Ira Needles Boulevard. A Toyota Corolla driven by a 72 year old Kitchener male was facing east on the shoulder of Highland Road West when the driver attempted to do a U-turn in order to travel west. The Honda CRV hit the Toyota Corolla on the drivers side. Both vehicles suffered severe damage. The female driver of the Honda CRV was taken to St. Marys hospital with minor injuries. The male driver of the Corolla was taken to Grand River Hospital but was later transferred to Hamilton General Hospital with serious injuries. The investigation is continuing. On Wednesday May 18th, 2016, a total of 23 officers from Waterloo Regional Police, Guelph Police, Aylmer Police and OPP took part in a Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Initiative on both Bingemans Center Drive in Kitchener and Fountain Street North, Woolwich Township. During this 5 hours initiative a total of 104 commercial motor vehicles were stopped and inspected for compliance with their documentation and the safety of their equipment and loads. As a result there was 24 vehicles placed out of service, 6 sets of license plates removed and 92 charges issued. Common violations were defective braking systems, improper tires, insecure loads, over weight vehicles and not having valid annual inspections. Police continue to focus on road safety and encourage drivers and owners maintain their vehicles for road worthiness.

Through investigation it was determined that 3 bullets were lodged in the door of an apartment building. Police are seeking assistance from the community in identifying the persons responsible for this incident. On Friday May 20, 2016 at 11:25 a.m., a black 2012 Honda Pilot SUV which was eastbound on University Avenue East at Pastern Trail, changed lanes striking a red 2015 Honda motorcycle. The 71 year old rider went off the roadway and struck a large wooden fence. He was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The fifty year old SUV driver from Waterloo was not injured. The Waterloo Regional Police Traffic Branch investigated the matter and charged the 50 year old Waterloo man with Changing Lanes-not in safety under the Highway Traffic Act. Waterloo Regional Police are asking the public to pay extra attention for motorcycles now that the nice weather is here.
THEFT MOTOR VEHICLE

Members of the South Division Break and Enter Team have arrested a 39 year Cambridge man in connection with the theft of a Bobcat Loader that was taken from a commercial property in the Cambridge area three weeks ago. On May 18, 2016, a Criminal Code Search Warrant was executed at a residence in Breslau where the Bobcat Loader was recovered in addition a large amount of stolen property including; two vehicles, a motorcycle, and construction equipment. The value of the property seized is estimated to be in excess of $100,000. The accused is facing multiple charges that include theft over $5000, possession of stolen goods and breach of court order. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. On Saturday, April 30th at approximately 4:30 a.m., two suspects stole a Bobcat loader from the Tim Hortons parking lot at 235 Franklin Blvd in Cambridge. The suspects arrived in a white pickup truck with a black, low-style box and towing a 5th wheel trailer. A short time later, one of the suspects started the Bobcat, which was parked near the drive-thru and drove it onto the trailer. The value of the stolen property is approximately $75,000. On Sunday May 22, 2016 at 9:25 a.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred at Bridge Street and Sandhills Road in the Township of Wilmot. A Chevrolet van was travelling westbound on Bridge Street as a Subaru was travelling northbound on Sandhills Road. The Subaru station wagon failed to yield to the Chevrolet van which had the right of way. Both vehicles collided in the intersection causing the van to roll twice off the roadway. The 45 year old Kitchener man driving the Subaru station wagon was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The 45 year old Tavistock man driving the Chevrolet van went to hospital as a precaution with minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

On May 20, 2016, Police located a stolen Honda CRV on Mowat Boulevard in the City of Kitchener. Three adult females were arrested after attempting to flee the scene. A police vehicle sustained minor damage during the incident. No injuries were sustained by the suspects or officers. The three females aged 20,19 and 19 are all residents of the Region of Waterloo and were all held for a bail hearing. The vehicle was stolen from Perth County a week ago.
