In the spring of 2016 members of the Welland Street Crime Unit began an investigation into the sale of drugs from an apartment on Division Street in Welland, Ontario which is located in the downtown core of the city. On Thursday May 19, 2016 members of the Welland Detective Office and the Welland Uniform Branch conducted Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrants on two residences in Welland, Ontario. As a result of the execution of the search warrants police seized approximately $720.00 in suspected cocaine, over $750.00 in prescription medication and $7,640.00 in Canadian currency.
Robert Tsanoff, a 48 year old resident of Welland, Ontario is charged with 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000.00 and Breach of a Recognizance. Dean Caperchione a 26 year old resident of Welland, Ontario is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Ashley Lewis, a 28 year old resident of Welland, Ontario is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Brian Roberts, a 33 year old resident of Welland, Ontario is charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon. Tsanoff is being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday May 20, 2016. Lewis, Roberts, and Caperchione were released on an Officer in Charge Promise to Appear and given a future court date.
