Two women were seriously injured after a car struck a business, early this morning in Oshawa.
On Sunday, May 29, 2016, at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers from Central East Division responded to a collision near the intersection of Drew Street and King Street East. Witnesses reported a Chevrolet Camaro that was eastbound on King Street East left the roadway and collided with a Tim Horton’s coffee shop, destroying the glass foyer on the north face of the building. A 25-year-old Whitby woman and a 19-year-old Ajax woman were exiting the building at the time of the collision and were struck by the Camaro. One of the women was pinned against the building as the vehicle came to rest. With the assistance of a passing tow truck, the vehicle was dislodged and the woman was freed. Both women were subsequently rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. Both women sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision and remain in hospital care in stable condition.
The driver and passenger in the Camaro were uninjured as a result of the collision.
The driver, Daniel SHAW,age 59, of Clarington, is charged with Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm x2.
The road was closed for several hours while members from the Collision Investigation Unit investigated the collision and collected evidence at the collision scene.
Police are looking to speak with two individuals who are believed to be witnesses to this collision. The first individual is the driver of a pickup truck that was also eastbound on King Street East at the time of the collision. The second individual is a patron of the Tim Hortons who arrived at the coffee shop on an electric scooter and entered the shop just as the collision was about to happen.
